Just In: Former FinMin Adriano Maleiane is appointed Prime Minister of Mozambique

Africa-Press – Mozambique. After yesterday’s dismissals, this Thursday, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has appointed the former Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane, to the post of Prime Minister.

Adriano Afonso Maleiane was born on November 6 1949 in Matola, Mozambique.

He graduated in Economics at Eduardo Mondlane University in 1989 and obtained his master’s degree in Managerial Finance at the University of London, in 1998.

He served as Minister of Economy and Finance from 19 January 2015 until yesterday.

Previously, he served as Governor of the Bank of Mozambique (1991-2006) where he oversaw the removal of the commercial banking arm and the restructuring of the Bank as purely a central bank. He participated in the foreign debt negotiation with the Paris and London clubs of creditors, which led to Mozambique’s HIPC debt cancellation.
