Lukashenko Urges Zimbabwe to Join Mozambique Seaport Project

Africa-Press – Mozambique. During his today’s meeting with Mabel Memory Chinomona, the President of the Senate of the Republic of Zimbabwe, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko proposed that Zimbabwe participate in the construction of a seaport in Mozambique.

Welcoming his guest, the Head of State highlighted the importance of integrating parliamentary co-operation into the relationship between the two countries, saying, “As I reflected on Belarus’ prospects in Africa, I returned to an old idea we previously discussed with your President. We urgently need a strategic presence on the south-eastern coast of the African continent. This means we should work together with Zimbabwe on building a port in your neighbouring country, Mozambique. “

“If we carry out this project together with Mozambique and Zimbabwe, including restoring railway links through your neighbour to Zimbabwe, your country could become a crucial hub for vital goods — not only from Belarus to southern Africa but also for products from other countries, especially Russia. We need to further develop this concept. Therefore, I ask you to remind President Mnangagwa about our discussion on this issue. It is very important for me to hear your and your colleagues’ views on this. This is a significant opportunity,” Lukashenko said.

As part of her official visit to the Republic of Belarus, the President of Senate, Hon. Mabel Memory Chinomona, participated in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory Monument in Minsk.
