Africa-Press – Mozambique. MetroBus, a pioneering private Mozambican company, has taken a historic step in advancing sustainable urban transport by introducing Mozambique’s first fully electric bus and charging infrastructure. Since 2017, MetroBus has been transforming mobility in the Maputo Metropolitan Area, transporting more than 12,000 passengers daily in the Maputo Metropolitan Area through its innovative digital ticketing system.

At the prestigious FACIM 2025 trade fair, Metrobus unveiled an 18-meter articulated electric bus manufactured by CRRC, the world’s largest high-speed train producer. With a battery range of up to 500 km per charge and capacity for 140 passengers, this state-of-the-art vehicle represents one of the most advanced green public transport solutions in Africa.

Scaling up with Charging Infrastructure, MetroBus, in partnership with Ponto Verde, is preparing to deploy 10 additional electric busses supported by a modern charging ecosystem:

● 7 kW/h chargers for residential and office use

● 20 kW/h chargers for commercial applications

● A 160 kW/h supercharger for industrial operations

Looking ahead, MetroBus aims to strengthen its role as a leader in eco-friendly intermodal transport, with metro trains, electric buses, and smart ticketing solutions driving the future of mobility in Mozambique.
