Africa-Press – Mozambique. The rector of the Joaquim Chissano University (UJC) said today that the university will sign a partnership with the South China University of Technology to train professors in industrial policies.

João Gabriel de Barros indicated that the agreement with the Chinese university’s Institute of Public Policies resulted from a visit to the campus in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, adjacent to Macau.

“It’s different from what we have been teaching in public policy courses. These are industrial public policies, which aim at industrialization, (…) which really aim at development in a concrete and direct way,” the rector explained.

Barros lamented that in African countries, including Mozambique, universities are still “very behind” in areas such as artificial intelligence and “other aspects of future-oriented training”.

“All of this creates a positive and necessary pressure. We have to learn and adapt all of this to our contexts and not always be caught up in what globalization brings,” the researcher argued.

Barros explained that the partnership with the Institute of Public Policies would include sending UJC professors to receive training in industrial policies.

“We will also have to have our professors trained there, because the vision is completely different,” the rector stressed.

Barros was speaking on the sidelines of a forum of think tanks from China and Portuguese-speaking countries taking place in Macau until Saturday.

The rector of the Joaquim Chissano University said that UJC would sign another memorandum of understanding with the University of Macau today, which will expand the existing cooperation in teacher training and teacher and student exchanges.
