Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican health authorities on Saturday announced 11 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease.
But there were no further deaths, and so the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique remained 1,936.
According to a Saturday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 957,353 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,627 of them in the previous 24 hours.
1,616 of the tests gave negative results. Of the 11 people who tested positive, six were men and five were women. Three of the new cases were from Maputo city, three from Cabo Delgado, two from Inhambane and one each from Niassa, Tete and Gaza. The number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique now stands at 151,488.
The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) on Saturday was 0.68 per cent. This compares with rates of 0.31 per cent on Friday, 0.37 per cent on Thursday, and 0.54 per cent on Wednesday.
The Ministry release also reported that, over the same 24 hour period, four Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital (three in Maputo and one in Inhambane), and three new cases were admitted (two in Maputo and one in Inhambane).
The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment units fell from seven on Friday to six on Saturday. Two of these patients were in Matola, with one each in Maputo, Inhambane, Sofala and Zambezia.
The Ministry release did not report any recoveries from Covid-19 on Saturday. Thus the total number of recoveries remains 149,419 or 98.1 per cent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.
The number of active cases of Covid-19 rose from 118 on Friday to 129 on Saturday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Cabo Delgado, 37; Nampula, 28; Maputo city, 19; Gaza, nine; Inhambane, seven; Zambezia, seven; Niassa, six; Tete, five; Manica, four; Sofala, four; and Maputo province, three.
The release added that in the previous 24 hours 49,104 people had been vaccinated against Covid-19. To date, 3,272,298 people have been fully vaccinated while, 6,109,282 have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
