Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique and Colombia expressed their desire to revive bilateral cooperation between the two countries at a meeting between Prime Minister Benvinda Levi and the Colombian Vice President Francia Elena Márquez Mina in Maputo this Thursday (28-08).

This is the first visit by a high-ranking Colombian political figure to Mozambique, and is considered historic by both delegations, who stress its importance in strengthening bilateral relations.

According to Benvinda Levi, the talks were open and productive, focusing on areas of common interest such as education, culture, science, agriculture, climate change, combating terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crime.

The possibility of establishing air links between the two countries, with the aim of facilitating economic and cultural exchange, was also discussed.

Prime Minister Levi observed that the two countries face similar challenges in terms of political stability, social reintegration and peacebuilding, highlighting Mozambique’s involvement in the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) of Renamo ex-combatants and Colombia’s similar experience in the reintegration of conflict victims, especially women and children.

For her part, the Colombian Vice President highlighted the historical and cultural ties that unite the two peoples, emphasizing the importance of promoting exchanges in gender, youth, agriculture and the energy transition.

Márquez Mina also announced the holding of an Agrarian Summit in Colombia in 2026, to which Mozambique was invited, and requested the country’s support at the United Nations in the process of recognizing the rights of Afro-descendants.

The Colombian leader praised the Mozambican Prime Minister’s leadership, citing her as a political role model for Africa and Latin America, and reinforced Colombia’s commitment to continue strengthening cooperation between the two states, including in multilateral forums such as the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77+China.

The visit also includes meetings between Colombian and Mozambican businesspeople within the framework of the Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM), with a view to identifying investment opportunities and trade partnerships.
