Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique’s ambassador to Timor-Leste and Indonesia, Belmiro José Malate, on Tuesday expressed Mozambique’s readiness to support the Timorese authorities in training staff and teachers in the Portuguese language.

“During the meeting I had with the prime minister, we discussed some issues that could be areas of cooperation between the two countries, namely in the training and qualification of staff, where Mozambique has some experience and can help the Government of Timor to train its staff,” the ambassador told journalists at the government palace in Dili.

Ambassador Malate also explained that he discussed with the prime minister the issue of hydrocarbons, an area in which they could collaborate in the future, and the economic and political situation of the two countries.

“Another area on which we exchanged views was the training of Portuguese teachers, which is one of the great challenges that Timor-Leste faces today, which is to expand the teaching of the Portuguese language, and we in Mozambique are at the disposal of the Government of Timor for this,” the diplomat said.

Belmiro José Malate, who is based in Jakarta, Indonesia, is in Timor-Leste to take part in an annual meeting with the ambassadors accredited in the country, promoted by President José Ramos-Horta of East Timor.

At a meeting with Ambassador Malate on Tuesday, President Horta said that he would strengthen “vital ties of friendship and cooperation”, and thanked Mozambique for its support.
