Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican health authorities on Sunday reported four new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, and no Covid-19 deaths,
According to a Sunday press release from the Ministry of Health, since the start of the pandemic, 942,509 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 822 of them in the previous 24 hours. 818 of these tests gave negative results, while just four people tested positive for the virus. This brings the number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 151,292.
Of the new cases identified on Sunday, two were men and two were women. No children were among this group. The cases came from four different provinces – Maputo city, Cabo Delgado, Niassa and Inhambane.
The positivity rate (the percentage of people tested found to be carrying the virus) on Sunday was 0.5 per cent. This compares with 1.3 per cent on Saturday, 0.6 per cent on Friday, and 0.5 per cent on Thursday.
Over the same 24 hour period, no Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital and no new cases were admitted. The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 treatment facilities was seven – the same as on Saturday. Five of these cases were in Maputo, one in Nampula and one in Zambezia. The treatment units in the other eight provinces had no patients.
For the second consecutive day, the Ministry did not report any recoveries from Covid-19. The total number of recoveries thus stands at 149,209, or 98.6 percent of all those ever diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.
The number of active cases of Covid-19 rose from 145 on Saturday to 149 on Sunday. The geographical distribution of the active cases was as follows: Cabo Delgado, 56; Maputo city, 40; Niassa, 13; Inhambane, eight; Manica, eight; Nampula, six; Zambezia, six; Gaza, five; Maputo province, four; Sofala, two; and Tete, one.
In the previous 24 hours, 159,434 people were vaccinated against Covid-19.The number of people fully vaccinated against the disease now stands at 2,229,451, while 3,539,150 have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
