Africa-Press – Mozambique. On September 16, 2021, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Ernesto Max Tonela, visited the Sasol Gas Central Processing Facility, in Temane, Inhassoro district, and the drilling platform, in Pande, Govuro district.
Accompanied by the Secretary of State for the Province of Inhambane, Ludmila Maguni, and by the administrators of the districts of Inhassoro, Dulce Canhemba, Govuro, Fernando Doda Muzimbigua, and Vilankulo, Galiza Matos Jr., the minister’s visit was intended to get acquittance of the progress of the ongoing activities under the Production Sharing Contract (PSA), whose integrated drilling campaign started on August 7th, 10 days ahead of the initial plan.
The visit, which was hosted by the Executive Vice President of Sasol Group for the Energy Business, Priscillah Mabelane, who is visiting the operations in Mozambique, was attended by Adriano Jonas, representing EDM and the chairmen of the Board of Directors of the INP, Carlos Zacarias, and from ENH, Estêvão Pale, among other representatives of companies and members of the Government at central, provincial and district levels.
The PSA Project will produce 23 Pentajoules of gas per year for 25 years. Most of this gas will be used to generate around 450MW of electricity at the new Temane Thermal Power Plant (CTT) and to produce 30 000 tonnes of LPG (cooking gas) per year.
Speaking on the occasion, Priscillah Mabelane reiterated her gratitude for the coordinated work between Sasol teams and the various ministries and departments of the Mozambican Government, which allowed the timely start of activities, which will allow Sasol to fulfil its commitment to produce LPG and to supply gas to the CTT by 2024.
In addition to the 23 million gigajoules of natural gas that will be monetised in the country with the production of electricity and cooking gas, the PSA project will also produce 4 000 barrels per day of light oil for export.
So far, the project has recruited 714 workers, of which 396 (56%) are from Inhassoro and Govuro, 76 (11%) from other districts of Inhambane, 123 (17%) from other provinces and 117 (16%) expatriates. It is anticipated that, during the construction of surface infrastructures, the project will employ more than 3 000 Mozambicans.
Sasol will continue to work with the Government, at all levels, to create shared value and to promote the well-being of communities.
