Mozambique: New polytechnic institutes to reinforce higher education in 2023

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Two higher polytechnic institutes will start operating next year, as part of efforts to increase access to this level of education in the country.

These are the higher polytechnic institutes of Mecubúri, in Nampula, and of Zavala, in Inhambane, whose construction works are in the conclusive phase, as announced Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Daniel Nivagara, in interview with the newspaper ‘Notícias’.

The government intends these institutions to respond to the challenge of increasing the capacity and access to higher education at a time when the number of new entrants seeking this level of education is growing annually.

Nivagara underlined that the sector is committed to reactivating Mozambique’s scientific repository, bringing it in line with levels in the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and the beyond.

It considers this a starting point for stimulating research and investigation within the model called ‘open science’, in which scientific knowledge is accessible to interested citizens, which it proposes as a way of giving greater visibility to knowledge produced nationally, in addition to that which comes from other countries.
