Africa-Press – Mozambique. The use of ore transport trucks to smuggle products, especially alcoholic beverages, is on the increase.
The Mozambique Tax Authority says that most of the trucks involved in the smuggling schemes come from South Africa and are destined for the Port of Maputo.
One example was the seizure a few days ago of a truck transporting clinker from South Africa to Mozambique, whose Mozambican driver was caught smuggling 550 cases of wine and other products.
According to Fernando Tinga, spokesman for Mozambique Customs, the driver is in police custody.
Speaking in Maputo on Friday during the presentation to the press of drinks seized from January onwards, Tinga said that around 338 seizures had been made throughout the national territory.
