Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique recorded over 10.6 million cases of malaria last year.
The number represents an 11% reduction on the 2020 total of more than 11.3 million cases diagnosed country-wide.
The official responsible for surveillance, monitoring and evaluation at the National Malaria Control Program told Radio Mozambique on Tuesday that awareness campaigns had greatly contributed to the fall-off in case numbers.
But, despite progress, challenges still persist regarding the correct use of mosquito nets and acceptance by the population of anti-malaria spraying.
Seventeen million mosquito nets are earmarked for distribution, with a first phase covering Nampula, Cabo Delgado, Niassa and Zambezia provinces.
