Africa-Press – Mozambique. Six people lost their lives last night in a road accident on National Road Number 1 (EN1) in Maimelane, Inhassoro district, Inhambane province.
Five of the victims died at the scene of the accident and a sixth on the way to hospital.
In addition to deaths, the accident resulted in 12 injured, nine of them seriously.
The accident involved a passenger transport vehicle travelling south, with excessive speed indicated as the cause of the vehicle leaving the causeway and overturning.
The wounded were evacuated to Vilankulo District Hospital, and the bodies of the deceased taken to the morgue at Mangugumete Health Centre.
Following the accident, police in Inhambane reiterated their call for strict observance of road safety measures to avoid bloodshed over the festive season.
