Africa-Press – Mozambique. About six tonnes of dried fish and shrimp have been confiscated by fisheries authorities in the coastal area of Praia-Nova, on the outskirts of the city of Beira.
According to César Maphossa, coordinator of fisheries inspection at the Provincial Services for Economic Activities in Sofala, this is the first large-scale arrest this year, other seizures being less than 300 kilograms.
Maphossa explained that the seizure arises from the fact that trawl nets were used to catch the creatures at a time when the closed season for the species – from 1 November to 31 March – is in effect.
