The director of National Institute of Electronic Government (INAGE) Ermínio Jasse confirmed that the portals of several Mozambican state institutions had been attacked by hackers, but assured reporters that the problem had been solved with no loss of information or personal data.
INAGE convened a press conference to explain why some government portals were put out of commission on Sunday afternoon by an attack by “Yemeni hackers’ ‘.
INAGE director general Ermínio Jasse said that this was the first cyberattack to take place in Mozambique, although several occurred daily around the world, and emphasised that there was no loss of personal data.
“Attacks happen every day and every hour, but they are not usually successful,” he explained.
“In this case, these were portals [only] and there was no loss of information; all information on them is for public consumption,” Jasse said,
Jasse further noted that all hacked portals had now been recovered. The solution however necessitated the attacked servers be switched off, affecting some other portals which were never hacked, as was the case with the Ministry of Defence portal.
Jasse also gave assurances that no money was paid to the “Yemeni hackers’ ‘.
