Nine Young Mozambicans Join Ship for World Youth Program

Africa-Press – Mozambique. On Wednesday, 11 February, the Ambassador of Japan to Mozambique, H.E. Hamada Keiji, received nine young people in a courtesy audience, selected to participate in the Ship for World Youth (SWY) programme, an initiative funded by the Government of Japan.

The programme brings together youth representatives from 12 participating countries, aiming to promote cultural exchange, leadership development, and international cooperation.

The nine Mozambican candidates come from diverse professional and academic backgrounds, including government institutions, the National Youth Council, civil society organisations, and university students. Their selection reflects the diversity, dynamism, and strong engagement of Mozambican youth across different areas of society.

In his remarks , Ambassador Hamada congratulated the young people on their selection and encouraged them to make the most of this unique opportunity. He emphasised the importance of deepening their understanding of Japan’s culture, traditions, governance system, and development model, as well as of establishing strong and lasting networks with participants from the other 12 countries. He also highlighted their role as ambassadors of Mozambican youth, representing the country with dignity, responsibility, and pride.

The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction at meeting such talented and promising young people, noting that youth exchanges play a vital role in strengthening bilateral relations between Mozambique and Japan.

The candidates, in turn, expressed their deep gratitude to the Government of Japan for the opportunity. Some mentioned that this will be their first international trip and showed great enthusiasm at the prospect of experiencing a new culture and broadening their global perspective.

The meeting took place in a positive and encouraging environment. Ambassador Hamada wished the participants a successful mission and reiterated Japan’s commitment to continue supporting youth development and exchange programmes.

The candidates reaffirmed their commitment to representing Mozambique with honour and to making the most of this experience.

The Embassy of Japan will continue to contribute to the development of Mozambican youth through opportunities designed to expand their horizons and develop their skills.
