Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Pan African Organization for the Economic and Sustainable Development of African States (Opdessa-Africa) aims to strengthen the articulation between young African leaders and national governments, focusing on promoting the continent’s economic independence.
The intention was expressed Saturday by the vice-president of the Opdessa General Assembly, Robert Tonissayt, at the ordinary session of the Continental General Assembly, which aimed to strengthen the articulation between young African leaders and national governments.
Robert Tonissayt stressed that the organization represents the continuity of the legacy of leaders who fought for the political emancipation of Africa, now focused on the economic and sustainable development of African peoples.
He said that the OPDESSA was created by young Africans from countries such as Angola, Mozambique, Congo-Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Namibia, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Sao Tome and Prince, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Concry, Sudan, Ghana, Sahara West and Zimbabwe, All united by the common objective of achieving the economic independence of the continent.
He pointed out that the central theme of the meeting is collaboration with legitimate governments, in creating alternative and sustainable solutions to the economic challenges faced by the region.
It is also foreseen the proposal to create a joint platform with African governments, aiming at the institutional recognition of the option with the African Union (UA), as well as the capture of international funds for development projects, especially in rural areas.
He added that, currently, almost all African countries are associated with the organization. Five of them already have internal representations of Opdessa such as Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, Cape Verde (in the process of legalization) and Ghana.
Other countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo-Brazzaville are also in the organization phase to officially integrate the structure of the entity.
Opdessa was founded on May 25, 2021, in the city of Maputo, Mozambique, a date alluding to the anniversary of the creation of the African Union.
The institution was born from the initiative of a group of former African-graduated Cuba and intends to expand its acting network and partnerships throughout the continent.
