Africa-Press – Mozambique. The flow of trucks on National Highway Number 4 (N4) continues to compromise circulation on the Tchumene-Malhampsene section.

Residents of the Malhampsene, Tchumene, Tsalala neighborhoods and others which the N4 traverses report intense congestion, especially during rush hours.

The situation is worsened by the road-widening works currently taking place in that section.

This situation is not just limited to the N4. The ‘Estrada Velha’ (Old Road) – where the Matola Cargo Terminal is located – has been the scene of dangerous manoeuvring, as the long lines of trucks leaving and entering the port partially occupy both lanes of the road.

In May this year, the Ministry of Transport and Communications banned the circulation of heavy vehicles transporting minerals on the N4 during rush hour (from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) on weekdays.

The information is contained in Ministerial Diploma 53/2023 of April 28, and makes reference to heavy vehicles transporting minerals, but exempts those transporting perishable cargo or fuel.
