Pemba Municipality Fails to Replace Broken Traffic Lights

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Pemba municipality is unable to repair the city’s traffic lights, which have been broken for more than five years. Some citizens have already accepted the situation, but others, to this day, are unable to adapt to the situation that is causing chaos on the streets in the home to Africa’s largest bay area.

Pemba’s traffic lights were installed in 2012 and worked, with problems, until they went out altogether in 2019.

The municipality promised to replace the lights several times, but to date, nothing has been done. Some of the traffic lights simply vanished from their posts, while others lie on the ground.

Citizens point out that, besides complicating mobility, these broken traffic lights are ruining the city’s aesthetic.

‘O País’ took the public’s concerns to the municipality, but, despite persistent queries, received no response.

Pemba has traffic lights in five parts of the city, some of which have never worked since they were installed almost 13 years ago.
