Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican Police (PRM) on Friday detained two individuals in possession of human bones, in the northern province of Niassa.

According to reports, the detainees were surprised with the bones removed on 31 July from a grave in the Matitima cemetery, in the Maniamba administrative post. A third individual involved in the case is still at large.

After they exhumed the body, the individuals were caught by the police. However, one of them, identified as a potential buyer, managed to escape despite shots fired into the air.

Osvaldo Piedade, chief doctor of Lago district, told reporters that the preliminary forensic examination pointed out that the bones belong to an adult, buried approximately three months ago.

In Lago district, there are reports of other cases of desecration of graves by unknown individuals, in the cemeteries of the residential areas of Tungo and Seli, on the outskirts of the town of Metangula.
