Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Thursday congratulated his counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune on his re-election as Algeria’s President and expressed the intention to continue the “close relationship” between the two countries.
“President Tebboune’s victory by a large majority clearly and unequivocally demonstrates the trust that the people have in him, as a result of the great achievements made by the Government through his wise leadership, in the political and socio-economic areas”, said Filipe Nyusi, quoted in a statement issued by the Presidency and distributed to the press.
Tebboune won Saturday’s presidential elections with 94% of the votes, thus renewing his mandate as head of the country, Algeria’s National Independent Election Authority announced on Sunday.
In his congratulatory message, Filipe Nyusi also recalled his visit to the North African country in February of this year, highlighting the importance of the “close ties” between the two states.
“This victory in the elections is a clear demonstration of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitment to the prosperity, stability and well-being of Algeria and the Algerian people,” Nyusi added.
In a result which came as no surprise, Algeria’s National Independent Election Authority also indicated that 3% of the votes went to Islamist Hassani Cherif and 2.1% to socialist Youcef Aouchiche.
