Africa-Press – Mozambique. Henriques Bongece, Secretary of State for Maputo Province, recently visited the sugar production factory in the administrative post of Sabié, Malengane locality, Moamba district, owned by Pure Diets Moçambique SA, an Indian-owned company, to assess the dynamics of local activities.

The sugar production factory has capacity of 35 to 40 tons per day, and is the result of a €30 million investment, Subramanian Palanisamy, CEO of Pure Diets Moçambique, told Secretary of State Bongece during his visit to the factory, whose sugar cane farming area spans more than 2,000 hectares.

According to Subramanian Palanisamy, approximately 95% of the company’s production is exported to European markets, with the remainder supplying Mozambique.

The company currently employs more than 400 national workers, most of whom work in the sugarcane fields, which produces 300 tons of raw cane per day. Subramanian Palanisamy also noted that the plant buys in sugar cane from farmers scattered across Maputo province.

During the visit to the facilities, Henriques Bongece challenged the company to increase sugar production and recommended that the company continue to address the local population’s social responsibility issues.
