Africa-Press – Mozambique. Portuguese sports club Sporting will pay Black Bulls €1 million for all the “economic rights” of Mozambican footballer Geny Catamo, the Mozambican club announced.
“We are pleased to inform you that an agreement worth €1 million has been reached, exceeding the €600,000 initially stipulated in the contract,” said the Black Bulls, the reigning Moçambola champions, in a statement.
The agreement, it adds, comes after a “stalemate” in negotiations with Amora and stipulates that the discussions took place directly between Sporting and the Mozambican club, ensuring that the amount will be paid by the Lions in three annual instalments, in 2025, 2026, and 2027.
“The definitive acquisition of the economic rights of athlete Geny Catamo by the Lisbon club (…) represents another firm step in the consolidation of our policy of developing and promoting talent,” adds the Maputo province club.
Geny Catamo, 24, born in Maputo, started playing for Club Desportivo de Maxaquene, shone for the Black Bulls, and arrived at Sporting in 2019. In December 2021, he debuted for the Lions’ first team, becoming the second Mozambican registered for the Champions League, and has since been part of the first team.
He was a two-time National Champion of Portugal with Sporting in the Portuguese League (2024 and 2025) and, last May, he won the Portuguese Cup, helping to complete the “double” that had eluded the green and whites for more than 70 years.
