Africa-Press – Mozambique. Three individuals aged between 33 and 43 have been arrested in Boane for vandalising electricity transformers (PTs) in a Boane municipality neighbourhood in Maputo province.
Police spokesperson Carmínia Leite said the three men were discovered removing equipment from an Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) transformer and were reported to the authorities. They were detained to be held accountable for the damages.
One of the detainees was an EDM service provider, Leite added.
“The detainees confessed to vandalizing four other PTs. Energy transport materials stolen in other places were found in their possession and seized,” she said.
The source added that some neighbourhoods in Boane town had spent the Independence Day weekend in the dark because of vandalism.
