AfricaPress-mozambique: Cabo Delgado province, in northern Mozambique, has a new secretary of state. The management of the humanitarian crisis caused by terrorism will be one of António Supeia’s main challenges.
António Njanje Taimo Supeia took office this Friday (11) as Secretary of State for Cabo Delgado. In his inaugural speech during the ceremony, in the city of Pemba, Supeia pointed out terrorism as one of the main obstacles to improving the living conditions of populations in the north of the country.
“We will give the attention that the subject deserves and we will commit to work in close articulation with our brave Defense and Security Forces, stationed in the North Operational Theater”, he assured.
Insurgent attacks in the north of the country began in 2017 and plunged the province into an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. More than 700,000 people were forced to flee their homes. The new secretary of state promises to continue the projects initiated by his predecessor for the development of the province.
“Cabo Delgado is not only the territory of enormous and most publicized challenges that the country is now experiencing”, recalled António Supeia. “It is also a land of opportunity on which the hope of an entire people rests, to reap the indirect and direct gains from mega-projects for the exploration of liquefied natural gas and also from the exploration of significant reserves of rubies, graphite, gold and others pleasant mineral resources around the world.”
