Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Social Security Commission (SSC) has injected N$250,000 into various schools and community projects across northern Namibia, with its dedication to national growth and community upliftment.
This significant handover took place on Thursday, emphasising the SSC’s ongoing commitment to education, social development, and community empowerment throughout the nation.
Anthea Olivier, Communications Officer at the SSC, indicated that the country’s progress hinges on the collective efforts of all Namibians.
According to Olivier, several key initiatives are receiving vital support to boost education, promote inclusivity in sports, and empower women in rural enterprises across northern Namibia.
Among the beneficiaries, the Oshikoto Regional Council received a generous donation of three printers and three laptops, valued at N$20,541.
“These resources will significantly support the upcoming Omuthiya Circuit Award Ceremony,” she said.
Further enhancing educational infrastructure, St. Gabriel Primary School in Okalongo was awarded N$34,162.26 to help complete a crucial school fence. This project will enhance the safety and security of approximately 300 learners within their learning environment.
The Oshikunde Combined School received ten laptops valued at N$44,990, a meaningful investment aimed at boosting digital learning and academic success for its students.
The Run Along Sport Foundation was granted N$50,000 to bolster its inclusive sports programs, which are dedicated to empowering both para and non-para athletes through engaging activities.
A substantial contribution of N$100,000 was also awarded to the Omukoko Co-operative Ltd, a remarkable women-led community initiative based in the Omusati Region.
“This cooperative boasts over 10,000 members, predominantly women, and is focused on scaling up its marula oil production,” she added.
She indicated that this endeavour aims to create jobs, expand market access, and preserve invaluable traditional knowledge.
Olivier explained that the cooperative’s impactful operations already benefit communities in the Ohangwena, Oshana, and Omusati regions, and they are poised to continue growing as a leading model of sustainable rural enterprise.
Olivier stressed that these contributions clearly demonstrate the Social Security Commission’s commitment to community development, national progress, and inclusive empowerment.
Since 2009, the SSC, through its Development Fund, has awarded 170 bursaries to students from these regions, representing an investment of over N$34.5 million. Additionally, 37 students have received study loans worth N$3.5 million, helping families access education and break the cycle of poverty.
Olivier said that through its Training Schemes, the SSC has supported seven projects with a total investment of N$17.2 million, providing youth and job seekers with essential skills for meaningful economic participation.
Under its Employment Schemes, the commission has funded 16 projects, injecting N$22.4 million into initiatives that create jobs and support livelihoods.
