Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ministry of International Relations and Trade (MIRT) hosted the 24th Dr. Theo-Ben Gurirab Lecture Series (TBGLS) at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), under the theme: “The Pact for the Future: Renewed Commitments to Advancing the Sustainable Development Agenda.”
Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade, Hon. Jenelly Matundu, outlined the process leading to the adoption of the Pact for the Future. She further highlighted how Namibia’s priorities under the 6th National Development Plan (NDP6) intersect with the pact’s implementation.
United Nations Resident Coordinator in Namibia, Ms. Hopolang Phororo, emphasised that the theme not only reflects the objectives of the Summit of the Future process but also aligns with Namibia’s long-term aspirations as outlined in Vision 2030 and NDP6.
The lecture prompted robust discussions, with contributions from both in-person and online participants. Among those in attendance was Madam Joan Guriras, spouse of the late Dr. Theo-Ben Gurirab, Namibia’s first Foreign Affairs Minister and a distinguished diplomat.
Since its launch on 31 July 2017 by the late former President Dr. Hage G. Geingob, the Lecture Series has become a platform for public engagement on international relations, with MIRT having successfully hosted 23 sessions prior to this year’s event.
