The Swapo Party’s Okongo district office has been officially renamed after the First Gentleman, Lieutenant-General (Rtd) Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah.

This is in recognition of his contribution to the liberation struggle and continued commitment to national development. Speaking at the renaming ceremony, Ndaitwah expressed gratitude to the party leadership. He urged members to remain dedicated to building the nation. “We must ensure we remain the blueprint of the country’s political landscape in all leadership roles. So, go out and cast your votes,” he said.

Ndaitwah reminded attendees to exercise their democratic rights in the upcoming Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections on 26 November this year.

He emphasised the government’s ongoing efforts to bring development and essential services closer to the people. He stressed that hard work and unity remain the cornerstones of progress.

Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa hailed the renaming as a fitting tribute and called on the office to serve as a hub of service delivery and political guidance.

“This office we are renaming today is a home of political work. It is where the party stays close to the people, where unity is nurtured, and where the values that freed Namibia are passed on to the next generation,” she said.

The event also celebrated Namibia’s liberation history, with veterans sharing memories of the struggle. The district office is expected to continue playing a vital role in strengthening community ties, supporting the party’s grassroots structures and promoting economic liberation for the masses.
