Africa-Press – Namibia. After 90 minutes of play and a 1-1 draw, Runs United defeated the reigning champions Tse Yaakuku FC 7-6 on penalties to win the Okapya Annual Football Tournament 2025.
The tournament is always hosted during festive season in order to lower the crime rate during the holiday season, the competition was designed to foster community development and bring young people together.
However, the competition also gives participants a chance to show off their skills, and teams and coaches can use it to find fresh players and talent to bolster their teams competing in various national leagues.
Eleven Morning Stars, located close to Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo Airport in Ondangwa, hosted the four-day event from December 18–21, 2025. This year’s tournament drew about 2000 visitors, and there were 15 exhibitors from all over the nation.
This year’s competition drew 22 competitors, and Runs United emerged victorious, taking home N$20 000, 18 gold medals, a trophy, and a brand-new football uniform sponsored by Pupkewitz Goldwagen.

Beside being defending Champion, Tse Yaakuku FC has a strong record at Okapya Tournament, having won three times and made six final appearances.

In third place, ALV Consulting Engineers FC won N$5 000 and 18 bronze medals, while fourth-placed Golden Stars took home N$5 000. All teams could participate in the competition without any restrictions.
Additionally, Runs United dominated the individual prizes. Michael Jonas was awarded player of the tournament and took home a trophy and N$3 000. Sem Ndahangwapo, another member of Runs United, shared the Top Goalscorer title with Michael Jonas and received N$1 000 each.
Kibbo FC won N$2 000 for being the most disciplined team, and Jafet Kaulinge of Runs United won N$500 for being the best goalkeeper.
This year’s tournament focused on individual awards because, in previous years, we have only paid attention to teams, ignoring the players who have worked harder to at least bring something home to support themselves and their families after the tournament, especially during the country’s football break. The eighth Okapya Tournament will take place in July or August 2026, with the precise date to be revealed shortly. Preparations are already underway.
