Africa-Press – Namibia. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on the nation to prioritise road safety and protect human life, warning that preventable road crashes continue to claim lives unnecessarily.

She said this while delivering her festive season road safety message on Monday.

“Let us protect one another and ensure that preventable tragedies do not overshadow the joy of the season.

“Let us remember our roads are shared space and the choices we make can save lives.

“Let road safety be a foundation for our celebration – a testimony to our national unity and values we hold dearly,” she said.

The president urged all road users to take personal responsibility and to recognise that safety on the roads reflects the country’s shared values.

“Obey speed limits, never drink and drive, and always wear your seatbelt,” she said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah also appealed to pedestrians and cyclists to be extra vigilant.

“Let us protect one another and ensure that preventable tragedies do not overshadow the joy of the season,” the president said.

She further encouraged families to use the festive season to spend meaningful time with their children.

The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund joined the president in promoting safer roads and responsible road-user behaviour, particularly as traffic volumes increase across the country during the holidays.
