Africa-Press – Namibia. Ndilimeke Iileka, the councillor for Oshakati West, said agriculture, affordable housing and youth empowerment are her main priorities during her term.
In an interview with New Era, she outlined her intentions to focus on these areas, aligning her goals with the Swapo Party’s manifesto.
“I am willing to tackle the key priority areas as indicated in the Swapo Party manifesto, more especially agriculture and food production,” Iileka said.
She said that strengthening food production is not only about farming but about ensuring food security and improving livelihoods within the constituency.
Addressing ongoing development concerns, Iileka noted that some issues raised by residents, including job security, access to food and permanent housing, are currently under consideration in the 2026-2029 Medium Term Expenditure Framework.
“This has been an ongoing issue, and it is currently being considered in the 2026-2029 Medium Term Expenditure Framework of our constituency,” she said. On housing, she stressed the need for affordable solutions aligned with the national goals of the National Development Plan 6 (NDP6).
“Affordable housing is well mentioned in the implemented Swapo Party manifesto and the National Development Plan 6,” she said. She also acknowledged that service delivery in informal settlements is largely managed by the Town Council, particularly as residents’ relocations continue to improve living conditions.
Youth development also forms part of her agenda.
“Engagement of youth is currently taking place by sharing information about the Youth Development Program designed to support them,” Iileka said.
On leadership and accountability, she stressed that communication will be central to her approach.
“Communication is one of the effective ways to maintain transparency, whether via social media, radio, displays and most importantly, community engagement,” she said.
She added that the Traditional Authority serves as a link of communication between the constituency office and the community at large, ensuring concerns are properly channelled.
Iileka is further committed to providing feedback to residents after concerns are raised.
“By providing feedback, either positive or negative, to the community after raising their concerns, we strengthen trust,” she said.
“I am ready to always listen to the residents. They deserve leaders who walk with them in both good and difficult times yet serve them with honesty,” she stated.
Through her outlined priorities, Iileka has signalled an intention to focus on structured planning, transparent communication and community-centred development in Oshakati West.
