Administrative issues delay occupation of NHE houses in Keetmanshoop

Africa-Press – Namibia. ONLY 27 of the 77 new houses the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) handed over to new owners in Keetmanshoop recently can be occupied immediately. At the official handover last week, Minister of Urban and Rural Development Erastus Uutoni said this is due to completion certificates that the municipality has not yet issued to the NHE. The minister said the municipality and NHE will urgently address the issue to ensure that the houses can be occupied soon.

“We recognise that housing is a challenge in the country, especially for the poor and the low-income groups. We are here today to re-affirm the shared resolve, collectively as a nation and as caring citizens, that all citizens of this republic have a right to decent and affordable housing and shelter,’’ Uutoni said.

“The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development believes in and will continue to support the NHE in its mandate to provide affordable housing for people of all income categories.”

Uutoni requested local authorities to consider including recreational spaces for sport and playgrounds in the town planning schemes to give the youth a sense of being part of a larger community that interacts with one another.
