Africa-Press – Namibia. The Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, called on the business community in the Omusati Region to explore opportunities to add value to local products and develop value chains, so that the ministry can help secure access to international markets.
“We need to see how we can create value from the produce we have in Omusati and how we can develop value chains,” she said.
She made these comments during a recent meeting with the business community in Outapi, Omusati, which aimed to raise awareness about the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.
She outlined the ministry’s roles, including facilitating market access and attracting foreign investment, and encouraged the Omusati community to work together and submit proposals on how the ministry could assist their efforts.
“We are responsible for creating market access for the products we produce in Namibia and the services we offer. We are also responsible for bringing foreign direct investment into the country,” the minister said.
The minister urged the community to shift their focus from regional competition to collaboration, emphasising that Omusati has much to offer the world.
“That is why we are here this morning—to hear from you, to say, ‘This is what we want to do here in Omusati, this is where we need assistance from the government,’ so that when investors come into this country, we can say that we went to Omusati, Omusati was raising this concern, and we are directing these investors to the Omusati region. That way, every region is covered, and we can truly give meaning to our unity in diversity. Every region has different strengths,” she added.
