Africa-Press – Namibia. Bannerman Mining Company’s recent donations to various schools in the Omaheke region have been commended by education authorities.
The mining company recently donated beds and mattresses worth more than N$90 500 to the Good Hope Primary School in the Epukiro constituency as well as school uniforms and bags to 400 pupils in the Omaheke region.
The schools that benefitted from the uniform and bag donation worth N$260 000 are Otjivero PS (Omitara), Gobabis Project School (Gobabis), Donkerbos PS (Otjombinde), Drimiopsis PS (Drimiopsis), Good Hope PS (Epukiro), Chief Sofia PS (Aminuis) and Blouberg PS (Kalahari). During the handover ceremony recently, Constance Wantenaar, the regional education director for Omaheke, said the thoughtful contributions transcend material support.
“We commend Bannerman Mining for investing in the future of our children and for demonstrating true corporate citizenship. Your support is making a meaningful difference, and for that, we are truly grateful,” said Wantenaar. Furthermore, the director told the pupils that the future is in their hands and the government has confidence in their potential.
“The nation is investing in you because we believe in your ability to succeed. Attend school diligently, engage fully with your teachers, complete your homework, and finish your academic journey with pride,” she said. Wantenaar told teachers they played an important role in shaping the pupils’ future and appealed to them to continue inspiring and motivating the children. “You should arrive at school fully prepared and ready to teach so that your dedication ignites a passion for learning in our pupils. Together, we can make a powerful impact on their lives,” she said. The director also acknowledged the important role played by the hostel matrons and workers at various schools in the region. “You provide not just care but also essential life lessons that will stay with them forever. You taught them the importance of gratitude, kindness, and responsibility for their belongings, both personal and communal,” Wantenaar said. She also complimented the presence of the school board members and parents at the ceremony.
“Your presence is a powerful testament to the commitment and support you show for our school community. It fills my heart with gratitude to see so many dedicated individuals coming together for a common cause,” she said.
Matjiua Hengua, Bannerman’s senior stakeholder relations officer, said the donation programme is a true definition of investing in the nation’s future leaders. She said the mine has run the Early Assistance Programme in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education for 14 consecutive years.
“This started initially as an Erongo region project, but it has become a nationwide programme that has benefitted more than 4 300 pupils across Namibia,” Hengua said.
She encouraged pupils to take education seriously and the community to put together what they must to make a difference in society.
