PREPARATIONS for the Outapi Constituency by-election have reached their final stage, and the Electoral Commission of Namibia has already recruited 210 polling officials who will be deployed at the 40 fixed and 4 mobile polling stations.
The officials are currently undergoing a five-day training course to prepare them for the polling that will take place on Monday.
There are only two candidates, namely Fillemon Shikwambi of the IPC and Selma Asino of the SWAPO Party.
The by-election became necessary when President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah appointed the then-incumbent constituency councillor, Immanuel Shikongo, as the new Omusati Regional Governor.
In 2020, Shikongo, who was SWAPO’s candidate, won by a large margin when he obtained 8,682 votes.
The IPC’s Frans Taapopi came a distant second with 1,094 votes.
The third candidate was Helvi Kaunalenga Shilongo of the PDM, who obtained 36 votes only.
