Africa-Press – Namibia. Eenhana Town Council CEO Gabriel Benjamin has called on the local business community to foster relations with the council in order to grow the town.

He made the call during a business meeting with the local community Wednesday in preparation for the 14th edition of the Eenhana Business Expo.

The expo is slated for 29 July to 04 August 2024, and will take place at the Eenhana Convention Centre.

Benjamin stated that local businesses play a crucial role in fostering economic growth within their communities, and that makes them the backbone of the town’s economic activities as they create employment and contribute to Namibia’s Gross Domestic Product.

“There is a need for our local business people and council to ensure that they foster relations by working together with the primary purpose of uplifting the livelihoods of the residents of Eenhana,” he said.

He then called on business owners to find ways to diversify their businesses in order to survive global economic hardships.

Meanwhile, the town’s senior manager for Economic Development, Environmental Health and Community Services, Gabriel Mwaninga touched on the importance and significance of local business as a catalyst and backbone for local development.

He said the development of any town depends on the investment made by business owners and council must ensure that they are assisted to yield results, which would in turn boost development.

At the same time, the participants raised concerns that in their views affect their businesses as well as the growth and development of the town, which included street naming and the construction of proper taxi ranks and public toilets.

They further urged the council to include them in foreign investors’ forums or visits, and for the upgrading of the open market and formalising of informal traders’ businesses, among other issues.
