Africa-Press – Namibia. THIS week, various regions across the country have experienced regular rainfall, but more intense showers are expected this weekend, possibly leading to flash floods.

According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, heavy thunderstorms are anticipated in the Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa, and Khomas regions today, with a risk of flash floods. The southern regions of the country are also expected to experience isolated showers today, while light showers are forecast for the central coastal areas.

In the central regions, Windhoek, Prospect Farm, and Elisenheim recorded 4mm, 21mm, and 20mm of rain respectively between Thursday and Friday morning.

In Otjozondjupa Region, Okahandja – where over 80mm of rain fell in just a few hours earlier this week – received approximately 4mm of rain between Thursday and Friday. Some surrounding areas, however, saw more favourable conditions, with around 27mm of rain recorded in surrounding farms during the same period.

The western interior of the country also experienced light rainfall recently, including Omaruru, Karibib, and Usakos in the Erongo Region. The east was not exempt from rainfall, with Leonardville recording 30mm of rain between Thursday and Friday.

While the week has seen consistent showers across various regions, heavier rainfall is expected this weekend in the central and northern areas. The public is advised to take precautions.
