A 60-YEAR-OLD paramedic identified as Brian Alan Low heroically saved the lives of three boys who were caught up in a strong current, however tragically drowned during the rescue operation in the small coastal town of Henties Bay.

Low, a Zimbabwean national, is also the founder of LifeLink Emergency Rescue Services, and his passing has sent shockwaves throughout the sleepy coastal town as residents honoured his selfless act.

According to Inspector Serafine Kandjimi of the Erongo Police, the incident of drowning happened on Thursday, 11 December 2025, at about 16:20, in the Henties Bay area.

“It is alleged that a 21-year-old male was sitting on the shoreline when two girls approached him seeking assistance. They reported that two boys were struggling to swim out of the ocean. It is further alleged that the male person went into the water and attempted to rescue the two boys; however, the currents were reportedly too strong, making the rescue difficult,” Kandjimi said.

She added that emergency services, including LifeLink paramedics and the Henties Bay Municipality Traffic, responded promptly to rescue all three boys and bring them to safety.

“Unfortunately, during the process, the rescuer (Brian Alan Low) drowned. His body was retrieved from the water, and he was declared deceased at the scene,” Kandjimi concluded.

The next of kin have been informed, and police investigations continue.
