Africa-Press – Namibia. When New Era visited the home of the late Samuel ‘Resign’ Jacobs in Keetmanshoop recently, mourners only had the best of memories of the former Swapo // Kharas regional youth secretary.
Jacobs died last week at the Keetmanshoop State Hospital, aged 42. His mother, Anna Jacobs (83), said it was very painful for her to lose her lastborn of 10 children.
“Resign was my fondest child, and I can hardly recall the time that I had to discipline him, as he was a very mature, responsible and obedient person in his younger days,’’ she said.
The grieving parent described her son as one who has always taken care of himself and her.
“I can still remember how he already, when at school, worked in shops in the afternoons and contributed towards our household expenses. He even built an extra living room for himself adjacent to my house from his own pocket those years,’’ said the mother.
She also praised her son for being somebody who never stopped during a project until it was successfully completed.
In her contribution, former // Kharas governor Aletha Frederick said it was a great honour to work with Samuel in Swapo.
“He was a true, revolutionary cadre, who stood up for his peers as a youth leader. Many of them got qualified today or benefitted from empowering programmes because of this legendary man,” she added.
Another Swapo member Dawid Boois described Jacobs as a loyal, dedicated and hard-working person.
“He was the best protocol officer I ever had and a loyal Swapo leader who never shied away from defending his party when needed,” said the politician.
Samuel will be buried this weekend.
