Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Governor of the Hardap Region, Riaan McNab, has voiced concern over the region’s low uptake of the first dose of the Measles and Rubella (MR1) vaccine, a critical immunisation intended to protect young children against measles and rubella.
“Our MR1 coverage remains regrettably low. It has even dropped by 3% compared to the previous reporting period, and this remains a source of concern,” he revealed.
McNab made these remarks during his recent State of the Region Address, where he called on parents in the Hardap Region to ensure that their children receive the MR1 vaccine.
“I would like to plead with and encourage mothers to bring their children for vaccination at health facilities or outreach points,” he urged.
Although he expressed alarm over the MR1 vaccination rates, McNab also highlighted encouraging progress in other areas of the health sector, particularly in the treatment of HIV and tuberculosis (TB).
“100% of HIV clients were put on treatment. The viral load suppression was recorded at 86%. Our TB treatment success rate was 91% for new and relapse cases. This success rate has remained consistent over the last two reporting periods,” he added.
