Africa-Press – Namibia. THE bail hearing of eight people charged in connection with alleged corruption and fraud at the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) is scheduled to continue in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The bail hearing was due to continue before magistrate Linus Samunzala on Friday, but was postponed after state advocate Basson Lilungwe informed the court he was not feeling well and requested a postponement.
The defence lawyers involved in the matter objected to a postponement, but Samunzala postponed the bail hearing after finding that the reasons for Lilungwe’s request had been explained.
Businessman Malakia Elindi is set to continue with his testimony when the bail hearing resumes.
Elindi is the second of the eight bail applicants to testify before Samunzala since the start of the bail hearing on Monday.
The first applicant to testify, Peter Elindi, was on the witness stand for more than three days, from Monday until Thursday morning.
Defence lawyer Milton Engelbrecht, who is representing former Namcor supply and logistics manager Cedric Willemse, has informed the court his client will not be applying to be released on bail on this stage, but reserves the right to do so “in due course”.
The nine individuals charged in the matter are former Namcor managing director Imms Mulunga (53), Cedric Willemse (52) former Namcor finance executive Jennifer Hamukwaya (42), former Namcor commercial manager Olivia Dunaiski (45), Peter Elindi (60), Malakia Elindi (51), Lydia Elindi (50), who is married to Malakia, Panduleni Hamukwaya (51), who is the husband of Jennifer Hamukwaya, and Leo Stefanus (37).
