Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIB Desert Diamonds (NAMDIA) and the Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) have formalised a key partnership aimed at strengthening the security and integrity of NAMDIA’s operational environment through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU provides a structured framework for long-term cooperation between the two institutions and reinforces their shared commitment to safeguarding a strategic national resource.

Beverley Coussement, public relations officer within NAMDIA, said that the agreement outlines joint commitments to improve operational coordination, information sharing, risk management, rapid response mechanisms, and security protocols across NAMDIA’s diamond-handling processes.

The Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force, Lt.-General Joseph Shikongo, welcomed the agreement, noting the significance of the collaboration for national protection efforts.

“This agreement represents a meaningful step in strengthening cooperation between two institutions committed to safeguarding the security, integrity, and prosperity of our nation. By formalising this partnership, we reinforce our collective resolve to protect one of Namibia’s most treasured natural resources from illicit activities and emerging threats,” he said.

He further commended NAMDIA for its proactive approach and commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of the country’s diamond wealth.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, NAMDIA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Lelly Usiku, emphasised the importance of the agreement for the organisation’s operational resilience.

“This moment marks an important milestone for NAMDIA as we reinforce the security framework that underpins our operations. This MoU strengthens coordination between NAMDIA and the Namibian Police, sharpens our security procedures, and enhances confidence in the way we safeguard a strategic national resource,” Usiku said.

The MoU formalises and strengthens existing national security arrangements, ensuring that NAMPOL personnel are strategically deployed during critical operational activities, including the collection, sorting, valuation, transport, and export of rough diamonds, as well as during client sales cycles and other high-security processes.

The agreement also facilitates enhanced investigative support when required.

The event, held at NAMPOL Headquarters, was attended by NAMDIA’s top management and high-ranking officials from NAMPOL, signalling the collective commitment of both institutions to strengthening the protection of national assets.

NAMDIA reaffirmed its dedication to upholding transparency, accountability, and robust security as part of its mandate to responsibly manage and market Namibia’s rough diamonds. The MoU is part of NAMDIA’s forward-looking approach to ensuring long-term operational security.
