Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA will host the Commonwealth Trade Ministers Meeting (CTMM) and the accompanying Business Summit from 16 to 20 June 2025, marking the first time the event has been held outside London.

“This will mark the first time the CTMM is held outside London, bringing together approximately 300 delegates from all 56 Commonwealth countries, including government officials, business leaders, and regional and international partners,” said Penda Naanda, Executive Director of the Ministry of International Relations.

Naanda emphasised that this represents a historic milestone for Namibia and provides an opportunity for the country to showcase its economic vitality, forge meaningful partnerships, and bolster collective resilience in a rapidly changing global landscape.

The event will be held under the theme “Fostering Resilience: Strengthening Intra-Commonwealth Trade and Investment Linkages.” It aims to promote cooperation, explore trade opportunities, and build resilient economies across the Commonwealth. It will also provide a platform to discuss pressing global trade issues, digital transformation, inclusive growth, and regional integration.

“With one-third of the world’s population represented within the Commonwealth, discussions will forge practical, impactful connections across key areas such as trade, investment, food security, education, and digital innovation. The summit will not only strengthen intra-Commonwealth cooperation but also ignite new opportunities for economies to thrive together—driving sustainable growth, fostering inclusive development, and shaping a resilient future,” Naanda said.

Naanda revealed that the event will feature a series of key meetings, including the virtual Working Group on Trade and Investment on 24 April, Senior Trade Officials Meetings on 7–8 May and 16–17 June, followed by the Ministerial Meeting on 19–20 June.

“Additionally, the summit will feature a first-of-its-kind Business Summit, organised in collaboration with the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and local business associations. This will provide a platform for private sector engagement and investment opportunities. Honourable Selma Ashipala-Musavyi emphasised that Namibia’s strategic location, rich culture, and commitment to international partnership make it an ideal host to foster dialogue, promote intra-Commonwealth trade, and explore innovative solutions to global challenges,” Naanda added.
