Africa-Press – Namibia. ON the sidelines of COP30 in Belém, Brazil, President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah held a bilateral meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The leaders reaffirmed the long-standing Namibia–Norway partnership and explored expanded collaboration in energy development, skills training and ocean governance.
With Namibia entering a new phase of oil and gas exploration, President Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the need for capacity building and technical knowledge to ensure the sector delivers broad benefits to Namibians. Norway, whose petroleum industry began with the Ekofisk discovery in the early 1970s, expressed strong support for Namibia’s context-specific approach to managing its resources, noting that no single model fits all countries.
The talks also focused on sustainable ocean management, with both leaders stressing the importance of protecting marine ecosystems while advancing energy development.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah further sought Norway’s backing for Namibia’s bid to host the African Green Climate Fund Regional Hub, an initiative that would place the country at the forefront of Africa’s climate action and green growth efforts.
