A STRONG finish by Christine Mboma in the 4x100m relay race ensured yet another silver medal for Team Namibia at the World Athletic U20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.

Team Namibia had a slow start but the hard work by Ndawana Haitembu, Nandi Vass, Beatrice Masilingi gave Mboma a flying start.

The last handover of the baton between Masilingi and Mboma went off perfectly and the 18-year-old powered her way through the field to take second place. The super sprinter ran the final 100m of the race in 9.86 seconds.

The four athletes from Jamaica held their lead throughout the race and took gold with their time of 42.94 seconds.

Team Namibia finished in a time of 43.76 seconds which is the new Namibian National record for the event.

The silver medal in the 4×100 relay race is the fourth medal for the Land of the Brave and placed Namibia 11th on the medal table out of 106 countries that participated at the World Athletic U20 Championships over the past five days.

Mboma took gold in the 200m sprint. Masilingi took a silver for the 100m and 200m sprint and the fourth medal was awarded to the 4x100m relay team.
