Namibian cyclists shine at Kwale African Road Cycling Champs

Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIAN cyclists excelled at the 2025 Africa Road Cycling African Championships in Kwale, delivering strong performances across multiple categories, including a bronze medal in the junior men’s road race.

Roger Suren secured Namibia’s standout result when he claimed bronze after finishing third in the junior men’s road race. Teammates Marco Thiel and Christiaan van der Westhuizen placed 14th and 25th respectively, with Thiel finishing 2:57 behind the winner and Van der Westhuizen 6:50 back.

In the elite men’s category, Alex Miller led the Namibian contingent with a 25th-place finish, 2 minutes 44 seconds behind the winner. Martin Freyer followed in 40th place, 7:50 behind, while Theuns van der Westhuizen placed 51st, trailing by 19:13.

Elite women’s road race saw Anri Greeff take an impressive ninth place, finishing 47 seconds behind South Africa’s Haylee Preen, who completed the 107km event in 3:10:31. Namibia’s Louise Breed finished 33rd, 11:13 behind, while Olivia Shililifa placed 36th, 13:40 behind the winner.

In the junior women’s road race, Delsia Janse van Vuuren shone with a fifth-place finish over 64.5 km. She stayed with the leading peloton throughout and crossed the line in the front group of 10 riders, all recording a time of 2:02:58.

Earlier in the competition, both Suren and Janse van Vuuren secured seventh-place finishes in their respective junior individual time trial events. Suren completed his race 52 seconds behind the winner, while Thiel placed 17th, 2:15 back.
