Namibian Man Charged With Murder Appears in UK Court

Africa-Press – Namibia. ARNO Engels, 39-year-old man accused of killing an 80-year-old has appeared in court in the UK.

Engels, the former owner of the faith-based Mount Sinai Recovery Centre in Usakos, appeared at Lewes Crown Court charged with the murder of Anthony Scarrott.

According to The Argus media report, emergency services were called to an address on Westcourt Road, Worthing, on September 11 following concerns for a man’s welfare. Scarrott was found with serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he died three days later, on September 14. Tributes have described him as “one of a kind.”

Engels was initially arrested on suspicion of assault and released on bail pending further inquiries. Following Scarrott’s death, he was rearrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently charged. The two men were known to each other and reportedly resided together at the flat where the incident occurred.

During his court appearance, Engels spoke only to confirm his name, he did not enter a plea. A provisional trial date has been set for March 9 next year, with a plea and trial preparation hearing scheduled for December 5. Engels was remanded into custody.
