Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) has commissioned a new pressure sand filter and pump system at the Outapi Water Treatment Plant, increasing water production and improving supply reliability and quality for residents.

According to NamWater, the upgrade has raised total water output by an additional 100 cubic metres per hour, helping to strengthen supply to the town and surrounding areas. The enhanced filtration process is also expected to significantly reduce turbidity, resulting in improved water quality reaching consumers.

To ensure continuity of supply, two new filter pump sets have been installed in a configuration that allows one unit to operate while the other remains on standby. This arrangement is designed to minimise disruptions in the event of mechanical failure or maintenance requirements.

NamWater said the intervention serves as an interim solution while construction of the new Outapi Water Treatment Plant is ongoing. The corporation reiterated its commitment to expanding water infrastructure to meet growing demand and ensure sustainable, reliable water supply.
