Former Ohangwena governor Usko Nghaamwa has pledged N$200 000 towards the upcoming Outjo Trade and Tourism Expo 2025, channelled through the Council’s Mayoral Fund.

Nghaamwa, who is well known for his philanthropic work, made the pledge during a gala dinner held on Friday in Outjo. Staged under the theme “Promoting Outjo as an Investment Town of Choice through Collaboration and Innovation,” the event attracted several prominent personalities, including former Namibian ambassador to China Elia Kaiyamo and former Kunene governor, now parliamentarian, Marius Sheya.

In his keynote address, Nghaamwa said he was both “grateful and surprised” by the invitation, adding that he “wholeheartedly” accepts the honour of serving as patron of the Outjo Expo.

Having once worked as a labourer in the Outjo area, Nghaamwa stressed that his connection to the town remains strong. He urged citizens to meet the government halfway in nation-building, reminding them Namibia belongs to all its people. He encouraged Namibians to support one another’s struggles, regardless of origin.

“Let us work together as brothers and sisters,” he said. “That is why I say, when I talk about education, I say education for all Namibians, whatever tribe you come from. And then we will build Namibia, our country, all of us.”

Outjo Municipality Management Committee chairperson, Samuel !Oe-Amseb used the occasion to invite businesses and the private sector to invest in the town. He emphasised that Outjo is well positioned for growth, noting the council has 7,316 plots available for a wide range of infrastructure developments.

“The council is open to negotiations to facilitate land for these developments,” !Oe-Amseb said. He further urged universities and other institutions of higher learning to consider establishing a tourism faculty in Outjo, given the town’s strategic location as a tourism hub and gateway.

Known for its welcoming character, Outjo prides itself on being an investor-friendly town. The municipality believes that with the right partnerships, the town has the potential to grow into a centre of innovation and investment.

The gala dinner was well supported, with pledges amounting to N$531,301. These funds will go towards ensuring the successful hosting of the Outjo Trade and Tourism Expo 2025, scheduled for 27 September to 4 October 2025.
