Africa-Press – Namibia. PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said that the recent incidents of abduction and murder in Okahandja — involving five-year-old Ingrid Maasdorp, Roswinds Fabianu (6), and Beyonce Kharuxas (15) — along with other violent crimes, show that Namibia is a nation at war with itself.
Addressing the Girl Guides Association’s Thinking Day 2025 at Ongwediva on Saturday, the President said: “I don’t want to lead a nation that is at war with itself.”
President Nandi-Ndaitwah is a former member of the Girl Guides Association and is currently the Association’s patron.
Addressing members who gathered at the Lutheran parish in Old Ongwediva, Nandi-Ndaitwah said that a Guide is a volunteer — someone who is always happy, cares for other people, loves God, and loves the country.
She said that where there is no love, there is no happiness. “A person who loves has no bad thoughts and has peace of mind,” she said.
The President added that Guides do love and care for nature, and as a former Guide herself, she found utmost satisfaction serving as Minister of Environment and Tourism from 2010 to 2012.
She advised parents to encourage their children to join the Guides Association, which plays a vital role as a non-formal educational organization focusing on developing girls and young women. It offers programs that cater to various age groups, aiming to foster personal, spiritual, emotional, physical, and social development.
The Boy and Girl Guides is a worldwide youth movement with close to 40 million members.
